Repurposed Vintage Suitcase

My best friend got me this cool old suitcase for Xmas because he knows I love to do DIY projects. So I decided to turn it into an end table. The supplies for the project cost me about $30 which wasn’t to bad. I started off by staining the legs for the table with a light black stain. Then I took a piece of cardboard and made a stencil of the inside base of the suitcase so I could cut out a wood base so the legs had something I could anchor them too (I also stained this cut out base black). Then I drilled holes in the base of the suitcase so could anchor the legs to the board inside the suitcase. Once that was done I screwed on the legs and the project was done :) Only took about two days to complete mainly because I had to wait for the stain to dry the first day. And not only does it serve as a small table but could also be used to store things in.

I’ll be on the lookout now for an old tv to turn into an end table. You can probably find one for cheap at a salvage yard or thrift store.

Antique Kodak Camera

My parents got me this for my birthday.  It’s an old personal Kodak camera in the original leather case with the original instruction booklet.

DIY Door Headboard

Turn an old door into a headboard. You’ll first need a door, the one here is a solid wood door that was found at a local salvage yard.  Then add a post to each side of the door.  You can also add a piece of molding to the top of the headboard to give it a more decorative/formal look.  Then paint it whatever color you want and then paint a coat of sealer on it.  You can also sand down the edges to give it a worn or distressed look if you like (which you can see in the up close picture of the top of the bed post in photo 4 ).  This project took a couple of days to complete so it would make a great weekend project! :)

Fixer Upper DIY Project

The trunk also had this sort of tray thing in it and I made that into a shelf for my room.  I started by framing it off with 2x4’s to sturdy the tray. Then I cut pieces of crown molding to place around the edges of the tray to cover up the 2x4’s.  I then spray painted it black and screwed picture framing hooks into the back in order to hang it up. This was a fairly easy project to do the tricky part is making sure you cut the molding exactly right.

Fixer Upper DIY Project

I spent my spring break this past year fixing up this old trunk for my dorm room.  It was a really fun project and it was pretty easy to do.  I started by sanding it down and cleaning off any dirt on it.  Then I reinforced the trunk lid with some metal brackets and spray painted the entire trunk black.  I then lightly sanded the edges and surfaces to give it a distressed look and added handles to the side for show since it didn’t have any.  I then attached black chains from the lid of the trunk to the base of the trunk so the lid would not swing back to far. I then sprayed everything with a clear semi glossy sealer to finish it.  I later went back an lined the inside of the trunks with memorabilia items such as pictures, postcards, ticket stubs from concerts, maps, ect. to give it a bit of flare.
